New book by PUPOL affiliates

Routledge recently published ‘The Routledge Companion to Leadership‘. Edited by two of our PUPOL affiliates — Jean Hartley and Paul ‘t Hart– together with John Storey and David Ulrich, this book may be of special interest to fellow PUPOL members.

The Routledge Companion to Leadership provides a survey of the contentious and dynamic discipline of leadership. The book covers key themes in the field, including advances in leadership theory, leadership in a range of contexts and geographies, leadership failure, leadership process, and leadership development. Topics range from micro studies to wider political analyses of leadership, taking in unusual but important aspects such as portrayals of leadership in architecture, media, and science fiction.

Contributions from 61 internationally renowned authors from 16 countries make available the full range of perspectives, approaches, and insights on the idea of leadership. Providing both a social sciences and a psychological approach, these go beyond common themes to offer diverse perspectives on such topics as emotion and leadership, portrayals of leadership. The book situates leadership debates and evidence within contemporary leadership crises, while ensuring that the explorations of the issues are of enduring relevance. Special issue Public Administration

We are delighted to announce that a special issue on the topic of leadership for public and social value will be published in Public Administration with Jean Hartley, Mark Bennister, Alessandro Sancino, and Sandra L. Resodihardjo as guest editors.

Please keep an eye out on the website of Public Administration and PUPOL where the call for papers will soon be published. For now, we want to draw your attention to the fact that the first deadline for a preliminary accept/reject by the special issue editors is end of June 2017. You can send your paper to the corresponding special guest editor Alessandro Sancino (alessandro.sancino@open.ac.uk). If you get preliminary accepted, we will provide feedback which you can take into account when editing your paper before submitting it to the Public Administration website before 1 October 2017. Your paper will then go through the Public Administration’s regular peer review process upon which the Public Administration’s editors will decide on an accept, revise & resubmit or reject. If you are considering submitting a paper to this special issue, we strongly suggest handing in a full conference paper so you can get additional feedback during the conference before submitting it to us by the end of June.

2nd international PUPOL conference update

On 6-7 April 2017, PUPOL will hold its second international conference. In Milton Keynes, UK, the conference brings together scholars on leadership in the public domain from all over the world. The organising committee received over 60 abstract submissions from more than 20 countries across all the continents and is now in the midst of a double blind review process of all these abstracts. Applicants are expected to receive a decision on their abstract shortly.

The organising committee has also launched a special PUPOL conference website to keep you informed on all the latest developments on the conference, venue information, and registration.
